Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting is a technique used at business meetings with a smaller number of participants. During the meeting, I translate shorter ideas back and forth between the negotiating parties.

Sometimes consecutive interpreting is referred to as ‘listen before talk’ interpreting. While one partner speaks, the interpreter takes notes and then summarizes what has been said to the other participants. The essence of consecutive interpreting is to translate what the parties are saying to the target language in relatively short, 4-6 sentence units.
